Most enjoyable part of role as Director
The most enjoyable part of my role is that I get to see our offices and staff far more than most. As a consequence I’m more able to get to know our employees on a personal level and enjoy seeing individuals grow and develop.
Favourite project
My favourite project has to be the NECC project undertaken between 2000 and 2002. This project involved the Project Management and Cost Management of a £300 million National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Due to the location of the consultant’s offices, much of the work was done in the UK with regular site visits to Malaysia. I had a very close role working with our KL Cost Management Partners, many of whom came to the UK to help in the preparation of documentation. The task of working simultaneously in two countries on opposite sides of the world, with different people from a variety of cultures was both stimulating and personally rewarding.
Fact about Gary
I have only ever worked for Edmond Shipway in the UK. Having spent many years working in the Far East I now have experience of Central Asia in Kazakhstan, India and Sri Lanka, in Eastern Europe in Macedonia, Slovenia and Georgia in addition to numerous countries in Europe. My interests include sport of all varieties, history and travelling.
