We are delighted to confirm that the Remembrance Centre at the National Memorial Arboretum has been named RIBA West Midlands’ Building of the Year 2017. Edmond Shipway are proud to have acted as Project Manager and Cost Consultant on this award winning project in conjunction with Glenn Howells Architects.
Regional Jury Chair, Natalia Maximova, said of this year’s Award-winners: “The winners deliver an architecture with a narrative and a poetry, while also fully responding to the functional needs of the facilities they created. It is a year of quieter and well-mannered design, nevertheless, no less confident and powerful for that reason.”
The National Memorial Arboretum is the UK’s year-round centre of remembrance. With over 30,000 maturing trees and over 330 memorials, it is a beautiful and lasting tribute and a place of reflection and the celebration of life. GHA’s new Remembrance Centre has transformed the site into a place of global significance. The project is home to exhibition and interpretation spaces, retail space, a restaurant, a café and a learning centre.
