We have been appointed by Parsons Brinkerhoff (acting directly for EirGrid) as Commercial Manager for the East-West Interconnector project.
EirGrid is building an electricity link called the East-West Interconnector between the electricity grids of Ireland and Britain. The Interconnector will help to ensure Ireland always has enough electricity to meet needs into the future. It can also be used to export any excess energy that is produced there to markets here in Britain.
The connection is being built between Rush North Beach, Co. Dublin in Ireland and Barkby Beach, North Wales in Britain.
The East-West Interconnector will connect the Irish power system to the electricity grid in Britain through undersea and underground cables. This infrastructure is vital to the development of Ireland’s economy. The Interconnector will have a capacity of 500 Megawatts (MW). This is enough power to supply approximately 350,000 homes. The Interconnector is on target for completion in 2012.
Total project budget is 600 million Euros.
