We have recently completed our role as cost manager on the £3.2 million development of the ‘Institute of Immunity, Infection and Transplantation’, a brand new research facility for University College London and the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
The new centre, located at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, is unique in the UK and will see pioneering research and clinical trials being brought together in a purpose-built centre with the aim of giving patients quicker access to the latest innovative therapies for a range of diseases.
The programme of works involved extensive refurbishment of the second floor of the hospital to create state-of-the-art laboratories, clinical space and a clinical trials unit. The development has enabled groups that have been conducting research in the areas of immunology, infection and transplantation to be re-located directly alongside clinical services, greatly improving efficiency.
The cost management role was key to ensuring that the design and construction of the new facility stayed within its demanding budgetary targets at a time when the management of the NHS is very much under the spotlight.
